Fruit Cup Fun!

Over the past couple of weeks in mathematics we have been learning all about sharing things equally, groups of and fractions. We have also revisited past concepts such as time and making lists. This week we used all our skills to complete our fruit cup investigation.

Our first task was to create a timetable of how we would conduct our investigation. Next we made a shopping list together so Mrs Duffy knew what to buy at the shops and how much we would need. Finally this week we got to use our skills to make our fruit cups.

We used our cutting abilities to make halves with all the delicious fruit, then made equal groups of and then divided the fruit equally with our partner. Last of all we enjoyed a delicious healthy snack for lunch!

Pen Pals

A couple of weeks ago we had a parcel addressed to us arrive at our classroom. It was a very exciting time for us as no one had ever sent us anything by mail before. When we opened our parcel it was full of hand written letters from another year 1 class at St Paul's Primary School- who have since become our pen pals!

We have learnt so much about our pen pals just by reading their letters and looking at their pictures. We researched where their school was by looking it up on a map and discovered what themes they were learning about. We found out that they have 30 students in their class and that their teacher's name is Mrs Duffy as well!!!

So over the past week we have been writing our replies by answering their questions and asking a few of our own. We also drew some pictures to help them build a picture of what we look like and things we enjoy. We have lots to look forward to with our pen pals like a Skype session and future letters.
